The Oregon Trail

This last weekend Pete and I drove the kids to Portland. The original plan was to go to Portland and stay with my sister and then drive up to Seattle that Saturday. But as it turns out, being Washington in January, all the major freeways in and out of Seattle were closed due to flooding. We ended up just spending the weekend in Oregon and we had a blast. We left Thursday night and drove through the night straight to the coast.

We started in Tillamook and visited the cheese factory. The girls loved the observation area where the lady works waived. We've been big fans of the Tillamook cheese for years and it was very interesting to see where it comes from.
After that, we just drove up the coast. Stopping at random beaches. The weather was beautiful. We didn't see hardly any rain. (which apparently is uncommon in the winter). We ended our drive up the coast at Cannon Beach. I love Cannon Beach. When I was a junior in high school, we got a beach house here and here's a pic of that beach house. If you've ever been to the Oregon Coast, then you know that highways to the coast are just gorgeous! Huge trees covered in moss and the ground is just covered in ferns. Pete and I decided to just pull over and play around taking pics.

After that, we went back to Portland and hung out with my sister the rest of the weekend. She brought back some delicious pastries from a French bakery, and we went to the Loyd Center and Omni.

It was sooo much fun. Sunday morning came and we were all sad cuz we knew it was time to go. Kristi and I made an interesting but very delicious breakfast and then we said our good byes. I just wish I would have had more time to spend with my sis.
